Cross Posted at Myspace--Waitress [20 May 2007|09:29am]
[ mood | amused ]

Nick, Tracey and I went to see Waitress yesterday.  (Gotta go support Nathan Fillion--He's always brilliant).  It was a very enjoyable and good movie; however, we had to see it at the Magnolia Theater.  Ugh!  Pretension at it's worst.  Every other car cost more than my mortgage.  I felt I was in the middle of cyberartist studios (Rent-heads know what I'm talking about).  It's an interesting area, I suppose, but I could never live there.  Maybe visit for a short time... but then I'd have to get back home to real people.  Interstingly enough, the Angelica theater doesn't have that feel, and it shows the same type of quirky, interesting, indy films.  Hmmm... maybe I just haven't  paid close attention... or it's because we've gone to matinees.  I'll have to ponder that further...

Back to the Magnolia, the last time I was around that many well to do, older, white folks was at this artsy theater in Cincinnati.... in the neighborhood where Nick grew up.  But, my husband didn't have a privileged upbrining---so don't talk about it to him---he's touchy about his street cred.  (Love you, baby).

Something to ponder... [25 Apr 2007|04:40pm]
The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.
The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference.
The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference.
And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.

http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/marine-corps-puts-limits-on-tattoos/20070328145609990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

The Marines are banning any new, extra-large tattoos below the elbow or the knee, saying such body art is harmful to the Corps' spit-and-polish image.

"Some Marines have taken the liberty of tattooing themselves to a point that is contrary to our professional demeanor and the high standards America has come to expect from us," (Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James T. Conway) said. "I believe tattoos of an excessive nature do not represent our traditional values."

Okay, in all honesty, one of the first images that I associate with the Marines is tatoos.  Maybe it hasn't been that way from the beginning; however, tatoos in general weren't as popular back in the day.  I understand the ban on hand tatoos and the back of the neck.  It would spoil a nice view when a Marine is in the dress uniform.  But seriously, it shouldn't be seen when folks are working out?  Hell, I suspect that whenever my husband finally decides on his design and gets inked, he will only look even sexier when he works out.  Oy Vey!

PS:
I meant to post this yesterday but, whatever.  After a brief encounter with the man that used to be married to my Aunt, I am again reminded why the entire extended family, who are unfortunately related to him, remained loyal to her.  Ugh!  I can't imagine circumstances underwhich I could ever be persuaded to feel differently.  If he one day changes, good for him... still dead to me.  If this makes me a bad person, so be it.  I embrace the label.

Well, we did the annual Lion's Las Vegas Night Fund Raiser again.  Lots of fun,  I mostly sat and played Black Jack.  I didn't have to speak much.  I'm still recouperating from the Bronchitis.  It's been kicking my butt for 3 weeks.  I believe I'm finally on the mend, thank goodness!

Alright Sandi. [25 Jan 2007|09:01am]
[ mood | mellow ]

Right, so I got nudged by Sandi ([info]sandi1743, dearest, but I haven't much to say.  Been keeping busy with work and life.  Going out of town this weekend though.  My folks left this morning.  Pop schedules one of his Continuing Ed weekends to be in San Antonio and then takes a couple extra days to visit family.  Nick, Debbie, Christian and I are going down also.  We going to leave Friday night but Debbie probably won't be home from work until 8:00 or so and I don't want to keep my aunt up waiting for us. We gonna do mostly toursity fun stuff and participate in a group family dinner.  My Aunt Jeannie is the greatest though for letting us bring the rest of our household with us (sans Buddy).  In any case it should be a nice short break for everyone.  Debbie needed to get away for a little while.  It just sorta came together.  Whoo Hoo! Road trip with a three year old.  Everybody sing silly children's songs and think of me.  If anything eventful occurs, I'll fill you in when I return.

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

I just couldn't get the code to work, but please go here to take the test if you are so inclined... http://www.flarn.com/~warlock/tarot/

Hey Journal Friends!!!
YOU'RE ON MY FRIENDS LIST, I WANNA KNOW YOU...I want to know 26 things about you. I don't care if we never talk, never liked each other, or if we already know everything about each other. You're on my list, so let me know who I am friends with.

1. Can you cook? Yes
2. What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator? Push the emergency button and hope I have a book shoved in my bag to read while waiting.
3. What talent do you wish you had? Drawing, I'm amazed with people who can capture the heart of something with a pencil and paper.
4. Favorite place? Depends on the situation, my glide rocker when reading, walking around the back yard when on the phone, etc.
5. Favorite vegetable? Zucinni
6. What was the last book you read? Without You by Anthony Rapp
7. Are you Dirty or Clean? Clean for the most part.
8. Any Tattoos and/or Piercings? one in each year
9. Worst Habit? I keep everything.  Slowly I'm training myself to go through and throw out various items, but it's been a difficult process.  Apparently I like crap that might be useful again 20 years from now.

HERE COMES THE FUN...

1. How did we meet? Here/CUA
2. What's your philosophy on life? Try to do right by yourself and others
3. Negative or Optimistic? I flip flop from moment to moment
4. What was your dream growing up? Geeze, ran the gammet, teacher, actress, lawyer, singer, nanny... and what am I?  An insurance and billing clerk  :-)
5. Worst thing to ever happen to you? Both of you know... you've had acess to my private posts.
6. What was your first impression of me? Fiercly intelligent and funny, someone I wanted to get to know better/Cool chick wanted to hang out with more
7. Tell me one weird fact about you:When I'm having an awful day, I like to sip hot cocoa.  Even if it's the warmes day of the summer... there's just something comforting about it (esp if you add Peppermint Schnapps to it)
8. Whats your favorite memory of us? I suppose not so much of an us, but I love the occaisonally commenting back and forth, honestly I just consider it a privilege getting a peek into your life/Hanging out in DC just sitting outside talking.
10. Have you ever kept anything from me? Both of you are on all filters for my journal.  In fact, you two might be the only people on all of them now that I think about it.  Interesting...
11. What do you think of me as a Person? I'd love to get to spend and afternoon with you in person and then fill this out/What can I say?  You're awesome, one of those beaufiul people we never have enough of in our lives.
12. Do you think I'm sane or insane? I think everyone is somewhere on the spectrum, but very few people are either extreme.... closer to sane though.
13. Would you cry for me if I died? I would definately mourn, but I'm not sure how it would take shape/Probably after the funeral once I was back home, uncontrollably
14. Would you be my crime partner or my conscience? I'd love to think of myself as a partner in crime, but, alas, I usallly end up being the conscience
15. If you could change anything about me, would you? I always hate that question, you never know what seemingly small annoying aspect of a person might have huge ramifecations in other areas, so I say nothing.
16. How do you fall asleep? Usually reading or counting... not sheep or blessing, points of various trapazoids I find in the room.  Hey, hey, you've been warned that I'm not "normal" before.
17. Ever gotten angry with me? No/We've always been able to work through our issues.
18. Would you go on a blind date if I set you up? Married
19. If you had one day to live, what would you do? Not a clue, I mean I've contemplated it before, but it always changes.  I do know I'd try to contact people I love.
20. A million bucks.. what would you do with it? Buy a house with more bedrooms or perhaps just pay off the current mortgage and give it to a friend.  Adopt, help those I love with their financial issues.
, 21. What is your worst fear? Well, it was the inablility to produce a healthy child, but I think I might be able to deal with that more, so  losing the ablility to think and express myself, my dignity, my essence.
22. Favorite thing to do in your spare time? read, write, connect and plays Sims 2 (I know, which one of these doesn't belong?)
23. Can you sing or dance? I can sing alright, not the best dancer, but I certainly enjoy it

I just couldn't resist taking this while watching Christian this morning... [14 Dec 2006|09:10pm]
[ mood | amused ]

Guilty as charged. I should have immeadiately told him to take the tie off. Instead I spiked his hair for him and told him to smile.

Then I told him we had to put up his tie so it wouldn't get dirty. But come on, he looks so adorable. I had to take the picture.

Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire... [08 Dec 2006|08:32pm]
[ mood | giggly ]

Okay, no chestnuts just the fire. :-)

Phew! Got a big chunk of Christmas shopping and wrapping finished. Ma and I ran around like chickens with our heads cut off this afternoon. Oh well, I love how prettily wrapped presents under a lit, decorated tree look. I know lots of people don't spend a lot of time on wrapping because it is just going to be ripped off. However, I get such pleasure from their beauty ahead of time, that I always add little touches and go crazy with the silver and gold. Nick is one of those "just get the gift covered" folks. Oh well, to each his own. I suppose that's why I do most all of the wrapping around here. I will give him major props though, since he knows how much I like "the pretty" he usually goes out of his way when wrapping something for me.

I'm in a happy place. :-)

Christmas Time is Here [02 Dec 2006|08:35pm]
We've gotten the house decorated for Christmas. Here are a few cute pictures taken during the process. Lots of Christmas caroling and giggling were the order for the night. Christian had a blast.

Now, I'm off to bed. My cold seems to be getting a little bit worse before it will get better. :-(

I recently read the Women of Genesis trilogy by Orson Scott Card (Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah) and they were very good reads and I really enjoyed them. Nick also read Sarah. If you are needing a distraction, these do the job well. Actually, I can't think of a book of his that I wouldn't recommend. Okay, back to work now.

O [30 Nov 2006|01:52pm]
Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. After, post this in your journal, and give out some letters of your own. Let me know if you want a letter.

[info]sandi1743
gave me the Letter “O”…

These are in no particular order.

1.  Office Space.  It's a movie that has gotten me through many a crappy work day in the past.

2.  One - Song by U2, a definate favorite.

3.  Old Friends, shared experiences and life context bring an intimacy that cannot be ignored.

4.  Original London Cast of Les Miserables Soundtrack.  By far this is the best production soundtrack (not counting the 10th anniversary one, which really shouldn't count because it wasn't performed as a musical but a concert.  Completely different medium.)  This musical also was number one on my list once upon a time.  It has, however, been bumped by RENT.

5.  Originality - the ability to think or express oneself in an independent and individual manner; creative ability.  What's not to like?

6.  Open Minded People - Most enjoyable for converstations or with whom to spend extended periods of time.

7.  Orgasms - Does this really need an explanation?

8.  Olive Oil - A necessity when cooking...

9.  Edward James Olmos.  Not your conventional leading man; however, I find him to be incredibly talented and sexy.

10.  Phantom of the Opera (#3 on my favorite Musicals List).
